Ballads are normally sung and narrated during construction of traditional Bhutanese houses, in which people ram mud to build walls. Since the work is a prolonged process, lasting all day and even through the night, people sing and narrate Tshangmo, or ballads, and songs to entertain themselves and stay productive. This particular ballad, narrated by Pasang, from Laya, Gasa District, performed an antagonizing ballad, with harsh and defamatory lyrics. Typically, Bhutanese ballads end on a positive or friendly note, but since this is just a recording she did not end it this way.
