Tashi Tshering explained that the area of Khothangkha was filled with furious demons in the past and these demons never allow people to reside, thus the area remained desolation. The precious master called Guru Rinpoche who was arrived in the country in eighth century, meditated in a cave and subdued all the devils through his supernatural power. Hence the place was converted into sacred and remained peaceful, thus it was termed as Khothang Dechenphug Drakphug.
